cherry blossom festival

Before yesterday, the only cherry blossom tree I had stood beneath was the one in my front yard. It was one heck of an event, that's for sure. We even tried out the rent-a-bikes but found that it was much to crowded to get anywhere with them. I finally got to see the Lincoln Memorial up close and Maddie and I tried to figure out what parts of the memorial were inspired by Greek temples (art history losers in their natural habitat). We spent most of the day avoiding large crowds while still trying to get glimpses of the trees in bloom. We had tacos for an early dinner, went shopping, and managed to find a cupcake store on our way back to the car. As the sun began to set, we were finally able to find a grouping of tress to stand beneath. Even in the dying light the trees looked quite beautiful. It was a really long and wonderful day and proved that spring is finally here.
